Universal Loom Knit Shrug Instructions
I thought I’d put together a quick tutorial to make up for the loss of Berrocco’s Tzara Knit shrug pattern as it has disappeared from their website. (Sadness.) Anyhoo….the pattern is basically a big rectangle. The dimensions of the xs size is 19″ x 45″. That 19″ length is the measurement from the neck to the area of end of a 3/4 sleeve–so about midway between your elbow and wrist. To get the dimensions for your particular size, you’ll want to measure from your neck to that point. Let say it’s 22″; that means you multiply 22 by 2.37 (the ratio of 19 to 45=2.37) which gives you 52″. Therefore, you’d want to make your knitted material to measure 22″ x 52″.
As for assembly instructions, that’s super easy. Here’s a piece of paper I cut to 4.5″ x 10 2/3″ based upon that same 2.37 multiplier (4.5 x 2.37 = 10 2/3).
Basically you fold the ends down (right sides together) as shown below and then sew the bottom seams to within 7″ of the tip of the fold. These create the arms of the shrug. You might want to try on the shrug before you weave in your ends just to make sure that 7″ is wide enough for your particular forearm.
Now for the disclaimer. I’ve not tested my ratio theory–although I’m pretty sure it’s going to work! Good luck!!
