MASON JAR NATION
It’s been a long time coming, but my most ambitious solo project to date is about to see the light of day. It’s my new book, Mason Jar Nation, The Jars that Changed America and 50 Clever Ways to Use Them Today.
The idea to tackle a book about Mason jars that included how they influenced American history, and 50 accompanying projects using them, was Mark Johanson’s idea, the editorial director of Cool Springs Press. I’d met Mark a few years ago when doing some technical editing for one of their titles, so he was familiar with my work on Curbly and my obsession for all things DIY. When his editorial board gave the project a green light, Mark contacted me and asked if I’d be interested in writing it. I jumped at the chance! Did I mention he also asked if I’d do all the photography for the book too?? He did, and I did!
When writing a book, you spend a lot of time alone. (Mostly second-guessing everything you’re doing.) But then, suddenly, something magical happens: fairy godmothers take over. That would be an amazing art department, which made Mason Jar Nation just about as pretty as it could be. I’m not sure how they did it, but I’m guessing they didn’t use magic wands. Although…what do I know…maybe they did.
Although the book is slated to be released on May 2nd, it can be pre-ordered at Amazon right now. Am I excited about it?? Heck, yeah.
